Hello. I wanted to ask a question about the Content Credentials in Adobe FireFly. I generated a Text Effect image from the Adobe FireFly and when I tested the Content Credentials on Verify, it showed there were Content Credentials applied. But, then after I cropped the image, and exported as a PNG, and tested it again on Verify, it showed no Content Credentials were applied.
Asking this because in the "Adobe Generative AI Additional Terms" in section 4.1 "Your Responsibilities" that says:
"you must not remove or alter any watermarks or Content Authenticity Initiative metadata (e.g., Content Credentials) that may be generated with the Output".
Does that mean that I can't edit Adobe FireFly generated images in graphic design software, because after doing so, removes the Content Credentials? Even if not intentional?
@KyleR12 Adobe does not prohibit users from using creative editing tools that may not be set up to persist Content Credentials metadata on download/export. The restriction in the Generative AI Additional Terms is meant to prevent users from taking actions specifically designed to remove or alter Content Credentials metadata (e.g., intent to mislead others about how the content was created).

Hi @KyleR12 ,
I'm no legal expert, but it's not you wilfully removing the content credentials.
It is a work in progress for Adobe from this post. https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/content-credentials.html#:~:text=Content%20Credentials%2...
For now, it seems to work with Ps, Lr, FF, and Be.

Hi @KyleR12 ,
I don't believe so, but you're right, it would be helpful to hear directly from Adobe.

I just got done chatting with an Adobe support rep about this topic and I'm actually still confused. This is my understanding of what the rep had to say.
They were basically saying that the "you must not remove [...] Content Authenticity Initiative metadata (e.g., Content Credentials) that may be generated with the Output". is only for free users. But, still. Even if a free user edited an AI photo, the Content Credentials would be removed. They went on to say (in my understanding) that paid users can ignore that fact that Content Credentials would be removed. But, why would Adobe have such an important rule in the additional terms that says:
"you must not remove or alter any watermarks or Content Authenticity Initiative metadata (e.g., Content Credentials) that may be generated with the Output".?
I don't see where it says: "Unless you are a paid user, you must not remove or alter any watermarks or Content Authenticity Initiative metadata".
It also sounded like, the rep was saying that wording was because Adobe FireFly was in Beta, but now that it's released, images can be used. Still, the Additional Terms do not say that wording was only for Beta versions.
They also said something like that after editing the photo it now becomes my artwork. Like, the fact it was AI generated can be ignored.
Since I didn't get a conclusive answer, it would be nice for someone at Adobe to give a correct answer.

As a matter of fact, the Adobe Generative AI Additional Terms say: "Effective as of October 6, 2023". So, that would make me think these terms are for the current models.

I don't want to keep on at this topic, but, I was planning on subscribing to Adobe FireFly. Bu, before I start paying, I would like clarification to the questions and Terms I've mention in this thread. Can someone from Adobe clarify what I've mentioned?

Ok, thank you for the reply!
Another question I had for previous FireFly images as a free user. I have generated images that have a watermark on them, that I would like to sell as sticker files. Would I be able to remove the watermark from those images? Since the FireFly FAQ says: "The watermarked content is still available to be used for commercial purposes." but, I can't sell sticker files with the FireFly logo on them. These two terms seem to contridict themselves, saying that I must not remove any watermarks, but at the same time watermarked content can be used for commercial purposes.

@KyleR12 Anything that is watermarked is not available for commercial use. Are you thinking about Beta features?

On the FireFly FAQ page it says:
"Why is there a watermark on the image when I download it?
The watermark is applied to downloads or exports of your content created with Firefly when you are an unpaid user. The watermarked content is still available to be used for commercial purposes. To remove the watermark, you can subscribe to the Firefly Premium plan, Adobe Express Premium, or one of our other plans."
Where it says: "The watermarked content is still available to be used for commercial purposes." is what I'm asking about. I would need to remove the watermark if I was going to use the image for commerical purposes.
I don't think it's talking about a beta version.

If it helps, this is the type of watermark I'm asking about. Not a beta watermark. In the image it shows "Adobe FireFly".

Are you on the free or paid plan? I'm currently a free user. It creates a watermark on the AI images also. I was just asking about what the above watermark terms mean, and how you would actually use a watermarked image for commercial purposes except by the user removing it themselves, but at the same time the Adobe Generative AI Additional Terms say: "you must not remove or alter any watermarks". Which is confusing.

Hi @KyleR12 ,
AFICR wartermarks were applied during the beta stage.
I tested again and defo no watermarks on my end.
Try hard reseting your browser and hop into Incognito mode to see if it helps.

@KyleR12 If you're a free user, then you can not use the generations for commercial use. The watermark is applied for unpaid users. Thank you for helping us clarify this because it's an important distinction. You would need to choose a plan to be able to use your generations for commercial use. Stricking out to avoid confusion.

@CMass Thank you for the reply and confirmation.
It would helpful if the FireFly FAQ was updated then, Where it says: "The watermarked content is still available to be used for commercial purposes.".
That sounds like that unpaid user's can use generated images for commercial use.
Could you also clairify my otjer question here? It's on a new post. Clarification on "5.1. Text-based Inputs by Free Users" in Adobe Generative AI Additional Terms

@KyleR12 I'm actually mistaken. You can use watermarked content as mentioned in the FAQ. Just confirmed.

@CMassThank you again for the confirmation!
But, can you clarify what this means in the "Adobe Generative AI Additional Terms" in section 4.1 "Your Responsibilities" that says:
"you must not remove or alter any watermarks or Content Authenticity Initiative metadata (e.g., Content Credentials) that may be generated with the Output".
Because, if I can use watermarked images for commercial use, but I can't sell or print an image with Adobe's logo on it, I would need to remove the watermark. But, it looks like the Adobe Generative AI Additional Terms is saying watermarks "must not" be removed. What is it meaning?
