Encoder is adding a black background to transparent GIFs

No matter what I do, I can't get AME to export a GIF with a transparent background.

  1. I've tried exporting to AME directly from After Effects (where I created the animation)
  2. I've tried bring the AE comp into Premiere and exporting from there
  3. I've tried bringing in a MOV file with alpha into AME
  4. I've tried bringing in a PNG sequence with alpha
  5. Ive tried bringing in a TIF sequence with alpha

Nothing works. It always adds a black background. Can anyone help, please? And also, please try it yourself before suggesting something. I fear Adobe changed something in the most recent release.

Thanks for taking a look.

Under the AME right side menu option are you getting these 2 options under presets dropdown menu? If you select the second option, it is exporting transparent gif. I tried it as you said, before posting here. 🙂

I believe Media Encoder can't export a gif with transparency. I just tried it by sending a comp to ME to double-check. While ME can export gifs I find that it's not the best way to do it. I use GifGun in AE for exporting gifs. Or I render out the video as a ProRes 4444  and choose RGB+Alpha for the channels and then I use a different Gif making program for the final step. My current favorite is GifSki.
