Question

Media Encoder CC 2020 very slow

I just got a new computer; imac 5k retina Catalina 10.15.4, 128GB RAM,  Radeon Pro Vega 48 8 GB.

I have a video that's been sloooooowly rednering on AME 2020 for the past 48 hours. Its 55min in length, H.264, and heavy on the effects. It was rendering fairly fast at first (I estimated it'd finish in 4-5 hours), but it got increasingly slower and now its at a crawl.

I know effects can add to the render time. But is this normal? I've rendered similar videos in the past on my old computer that only took 8 hours.

I have macbook pro 2017 model, and when exporting a 2 minute, 54 second video, it originally said 10 minutes, but now its at 2 hours. I think is would most likely be a problem with media encoder since the same problem occurs on both after effect and premiere

Out of curiousity, is anyone from Adobe even looking at this thread? because we could use some help.

What in googley moogley is going on with Media Encoder?, its impossible to encode anything, Ive had to separate my encodings into 100 frame sections just so it wont freeze on me part way.

I used to be able to encode things in a fraction of the time.

to top it off I have to close everything else in my computer otherwise it crashes straight away. not 2 months ago I did not have this issue.

I'm having the same issue, Media Encoder was working fine a week ago but now it is so unbelievably slow to export a simple 2-minute video with 0 effects. To top it all off, the progress bar fills up 75% and then just stops exporting. So essentially I have no way to export these videos.

I have heard from other threads that downgrading may help. I recently had to export problems with photoshop 2021 as well and then I just downgraded to 2020 and it fixed all my issues. I think adobe hasn't fully refined 2021 Suite.

I'm having the worst experience right now. I have a 20 second video with no effects and it's on a 2 hour render time. Can't seem to find the right answer anywhere

too bad imovie couldnt have the same options as after effects and premiere. the effects in imove render instantly, you have playback automatically, and it takes 6 minutes to export a 3 minute video in 1080p resolution with green screen, text, and video overlay. Apple should definately make their own version of after effects and premire

Is anyone else experiencing these slowdowns after the 2020 rollout? I feel like Media Encoder was much faster last year even with heavy effects usage. Also, It would be real nice if we got some replies from Adobe Specialists here...

Yep, I'm having a few issues as well - particularly with Media Encoder getting stuck trying to open the Dynamic Link after I export from After Effects. Sometimes it connects in seconds, other times it takes minutes, and about 40% of the time it times out and I need to restart both After Effects and Media Encoder and try again. I've not yet discerned any particular pattern to the problem...

(I'm using After Effects 2020 v 17.5 and Media Encoder 2020 v 14.5, both updated three weeks ago in late October when they were released.)

I had a similar issue where the export for a 2 minute video with no special effects was going to take over 2 hours. I tried adjusting export settings but everything I did only made the export time increase. I restarted my Mac, opened the project, and exported it in :45 seconds. Why that worked? No idea.

I had the same issue. In Media Encoder the update selected "Mercury Playback Engine Software Only" ... so make sure YOU select under Preferences/General/ Video Rendering " Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (Metal) Recommended ... check in premiere as well. Same setting. Then restart and do work.

I think not using AE doesn't help. I regularly use only PP and export in ME with the same slow results. Another solution given was to use (Metal), but the problem is not there. That's the one I use and doesn't work either. I even did a fresh instalation of the OS (Catalina 10.15.7) and didn't work.

The problem is in Adobe CC suite. Everytime the Adobe "engineers" release a nuew update, this comes with a bunch of issues on things that were working perfect in previous editions. And if them (Adobe "engineers") haven't replied to this issue is because they are in the same level of troubleshooting as we are.

I had to go back to using Media Encoder 2019 (13.1.5), which luckily I still had installed. 14.4 not only takes forever but sometimes produces a choppy result.

I think it's caused by After Effects.  If I don't start After Effects after booting PC and only  use PP, Media Encoder runs fast.  After Effects also has some sort of memory leak -- I run out of font memory sometimes and labels don't show on File Explorer and other programs.

I had the same problem after installing the lasted version. I tried to downgrade to the  Media Encoder Version (14.0.4). It solved the problem for me. Btw: I also downgraded Premiere CC and working now fine again.

Here is the message for Premiere CC: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/bd-p/premiere-pro?page=1&sort=latest_replies&filter=all

I havn't found a message for Media Encoder, but it downgrading helped me. After the update Videos which take maximum 3 mins took 3 hours and now after the downgrade it is working fine again.

For Media Encoder cc2020

After a fresh computer reboot, Media Encoder runs very fast.  After I've processed a couple of videos, it starts to slow down.  What's up with that.  By fast, I mean it will process a 45 minutes video in 32 minutes.  Then a while later it will take over an hour to process a 45 minute video.

I guess I should ask a question: what residue builds up after Media Encoder runs a while?  I've noticed that Adobe apps, either Premiere or Media Encoder, do not drop their file handles after I've deleted files from them.  Sometimes Windows will not let me delete a file because an Adobe app still has it locked, even though I've deleted the file in the app.

Hi there,

I am getting a simillar issue. I export my premier files through Media Encoder and since the latest update has been extremly slow!!!! things that used to taek 10 minutes take over an hour. I'm not sure if its a premier or media encoder issue as premier needs to render with Software only now when you add a legacy title.

Have you found away to speed things up?
