P2 Movie Export

Until very recently, I've been using CS6 Media Encoder to export AfterEffects projects directly to P2 format in a television control room environment. ME would compile a "CONTENTS" folder and all the related subfolders and files for playback on a P2 deck.

However, within the last month, my employer updated my editing system with a Mac Studio and CC, which is great, but... ME seems to no longer support P2  Movie export.

An Adobe user guide updated May 23, 2023 says Premiere projects can be sent to ME and exported as P2 files, but I see no drop-down "P2 Movie" option when I try. I've also tried rolling back both Premiere and Media Encoder through multiple versions, and still no luck.

Any suggestions?

@David320381391cqg ,

The issue is that there are a handful of formats that work on Intel Macintosh but not on Apple silicon Macintosh. The document that @David Arbor linked to below lists supported formats but it didn't flag those that don't work on Apple silicon - P2 export is one of those. I've had the document updated, so it now clears identifies the Apple silicon incompatible formats. We are not planning on adding export support for those formats in the future.

Fergus

In both AME 2023 and the public beta (24.1), I see P2 as an option in the Format dropdown. Is it not there for you?

Edit: the screenshot is embedded weirdly. Click the preview and you can see the entire image.

David, thanks for your response. Sorry I haven't replied before now, but I seldom get on the forum, and I've had to temporarily resign myself to working around this difficulty due to recent deadline time constraints.

As for the image you included... No, my drop-down is very truncated compared to yours. I did update to Media Encoder 2024 today, but nothing seems to have changed. I took a screen shot (below).

Huh, that is odd. Your shortened list is mostly because you're on a Mac. This page shows which formats are supported on both platforms and which formats are Windows only, but P2 isn't labeled as such. https://helpx.adobe.com/media-encoder/using/file-formats-supported-export.html

@Kevin-Monahan do you have any insight into this one?
