Still having issues with stacks and components in preview mode

In preview mode and shared links, stacked components overlap each other and the background to not extend to accommodate the expanded stack. However, when I click on the component states manually in XD the group stack behaves as intended. I didn't start having this issue until after the Adobe XD 31 update. There have been several updates since then and none of them have fixed this issue and this is not my first time posting about this problem.

Hey there. It's not a bug, but that's how the feature was designed / implemented.

I agree making it work in preview mode would make sense, but it's not how Xd works, unfortunately. Everything in the Xd prototype is pre-rendered and there's no dynamic relationship between the elements, so the stacking feature only works while designing to help with layout, but doesn't work dynamically in the prototype.

Xd is slow getting new updates because of the situation of Adobe acquiring Figma. Until that is resolved, it is unclear how many and what updates Xd will be getting in the near future. For now it's just small fixes. This feature here will require a bigger investment, so I'm not sure if it will get addressed anytime soon.

Same goes for the text engine issue on Windows, component states inheritance of text in instances, and other issues that have been in the backlog for years.

Hi Spas,

Now that Adobe is no longer acquiring Figma, does this mean that Adobe will now be getting new updates and fixes for existing issues?

Thanks!

Still no solution for this problem? Adobe should hire more trained support specialists.

Issue is still occuring in 32.2.22.2 on Windows 10. Frustrating, and whilst I can work around it by including more elements within my component, it's messy, makes the component less reusable, and will need to be undone when the Desktop Preview  and Published web previews are fixed.

Hi Richard,

Sorry to hear about the trouble. There are certain limitations with stacks which are listed below:

  1. If you hover an element with a hover state that grows in size, the background does not resize to fit the new state, and elements in the stack are not pushed away.
  2. Components cannot act as a background for padding and stacks. Instead, create one component that contains both the content and the background.
  3. You cannot:
    • Convert special groups into masks or Boolean groups into stacks.
    • Resize stacks in the stack direction.
    • Select a stack element and elements outside of the stack.

Hi Ashley,

I am so sorry that you have to report it again as it was not resolved last time. I will escalate this to the Engineering team. Will it be possible for you to share a sample file for referece? If yes, please add the file to shared location like a DropBox or any other cloud storage and then you can either share the link here or you can DM the link.

Note: While sending the DM, please add this discussion link in the subject.
