Hi Everyone,

Happy Max!

This MAX release brings to you new and anticipated functionalities along with several improvements to the product experience. Please update to the latest version of XD from the Creative Cloud Desktop app to enjoy the latest features.

New Features

1. Rename layers shortcut:

You can now rename the layers panel by using Ctrl+ Alt +R for windows and Cmd + Opt + R key for Mac, as these are general shortcut keys at the OS level. For more details, please refer to this article: https://adobe.ly/3SqCbk5.

2. Ability to Search & Filter versions

The ability to search and filter prior iterations by name and description and add context about your documents' versions (marked name version & description). See this article for more info: https://adobe.ly/3dSvSqi.

Product Improvements

  • Improved long-layer name visibility: In design specs, if the component or group name is lengthy, you can click the name in the property inspector to copy it.
  • To minimize the unintentional sharing of selected artboards from the Design mode, you can now share them only after you release the mouse button on the share icon.

To get a detailed summary, see What's new in XD and Fixed Issues.

To share feedback on this update, create a new post. We are happy to help.

Happy Designing!

Thanks,

Harshika

Thank you for the update. It seems that there is a perception that the Adobe XD team may not have been able to match the pace of feature development set by Figma, resulting in Adobe's decision to acquire Figma. There are questions about Adobe's plans regarding the integration of the two applications. Will Adobe merge them or phase out XD and incorporate Figma into the Creative Cloud? People who rely on these tools would appreciate clarification sooner rather than later, as it may impact their migration of client and work files to the new ecosystem..............

I'm not an Adobe employee, so consider my view an outsider's... but I have opinions based on my industry experience of seeing apps come and go over 20+ years.

Adobe has not completed the acquisition of Figma so they can't say too much until that has finished (it must still be approved by the governments in the US and possibly the EU).

What Adobe has stated is that they will support XD for existing customers. That doesn't mean adding feautures. For over a year XD has not really seen new features and now Adobe has scrubbed it from their website and no longer sells it to new customers. Adobe wouldn't spend $20 billion on Figma just to kill it. Figma is/was the better app (with a larger user base) and it won. XD is limping along is support mode until Figma becomes Adobe's. What that looks like Adobe can't say until the purchase happens. Figma will likely get an import for XD files like it has for Sketch, so you can migrate your files.

I'd suggest not waiting any longer and start learning/using Figma ASAP.

Hi @HARSHIKA_VERMA

I just noticed that XD is no longer included on Adobe's products page: https://www.adobe.com/products/catalog.html

Does this mean that XD is now officially dead?

Hi @jamesh70351631,

We will continue to serve our existing Adobe XD customers. XD is available as part of our Creative Cloud All Apps plan.

Thanks,

Harshika

Thanks for the update, but it looks like the Adobe XD engineering and design team couldn't do enough or work fast enough to outpace the features in Figma so Adobe decided to just buy them out. So Adobe are you planning on combining the two applications or will just quietly kill off XD and roll Figma into the Creative Cloud? Clarification sooner than later would be appreciated for those that will need to migrate client files and work files into the new ecosystem.

My guess is XD will be put on maintaince mode for a number of years. Figma will be the Adobe recommended solution going forward. All this hinges on the acquisition becoming final.  But this is just my guess…

I think they mentioned that it would be "like" Behance. Connected to CC, but sort of its own thing. Again, guessing and pulling on years of experience in the Adobe-ecosystem.

I hope your guess is wrong, because logic says Figma really must be fully integrated into the CC workflow. However, as you wrote, experience with the Adobe ecosystem doesn't guarentee logic will rule the day.

Hi,

I see update for 55.2.12 today. Can you give more details on the changes?

Just imagine if adobe could be honest with it's customers for once. Even in a scenario where they're set to own the competition - they're not prepared to be frank about the state of their software to paid up users.

Adobe are the only proof anyone needs that functional monopolies are terrible for the consumer.

I hope that the figma deal hits a stonewall of gov agencies who know better.

I'm sorry to say it, but XD is dead. Adobe wouldn't spend $20 billon on Figma and also have XD. I got an email from Adobe saying they'd support XD but were winding down thei investment in it. XD is basically in maintance only mode at this point, so it's time to move on to Figma (which is actually more powerful than XD, although not quite as intuitive initially to learn).

@HARSHIKA_VERMAHello, This Update is a joke? half year for that??

I had been wondering why I wasn't seeing more updates. Once I saw the announcement that Adobe would be purchasing Figma (and got an email from Adobe saying they'd support XD but were not investing it it more)... it was clear Figma won. XD is basically in maintance only mode at this point.

Of course this also assumes the purchase of Figma is approved and actually goes through. If it doesn't happen, I suppose we could see XD come back to life... although it would be at a significant disadvantage having not been moving forward for so long.
