AE 2022, 2023, 2024 all crash when opening file dialogs

When attempting to open a file dialog (Import footage, Apply Animation Preset, select Render output are the crashes I have encountered so far), I get the crash dialog and (at least in 2024) the chance to save a file.  The save dialog also crashes, however, and in 2024 I no longer have the option of sending a crash report.

Have uninstalled 2022 and 2023, have deleted my User prefs folder from Documents/Adobe/version/User Presets, and am absolutely dead in the water.

Any ideas how I can get back to work?

Marking this thread as Acknowledged, but the fix for this issue will likely have to be from an update to Aspera.

Hi @cvifx_steve,

Thank you for letting me know that Aspera was the issue. We are currently reaching out to IBM to see about getting the issue in Aspera fixed, but there is no timeline for resolution—realistically, they will simply push out a fixed update versus publishing a time estimate.

Weird that it seemed to start out of the blue (2022 and 2023 had been on my laptop for a good long while, fully functional, and had not updated Aspera in months).

I can't say for sure, but it could be either an automatic update to Aspera or potentially an interaction between a Windows update and Aspera. There are reports from around the web of Aspera causing crashes in other applications as well, so the problem is somewhat widespread.

If we do get an update, I'll post here to let you know the latest.

Cheers,

Hi John, uninstalling Aspera Connect has resolved the issue.  Weird that it seemed to start out of the blue (2022 and 2023 had been on my laptop for a good long while, fully functional, and had not updated Aspera in months).

Regrettably, I do need to use Aspera on a regular/frequent basis.  Is there a timeline on a resolution?

I did submit a few crash reports with my email address attached, but to be honest I've submitted so many over the years for multiple issues and never heard anything back, so I've all but given up on them as a useful tool.  Your response is literally the only thing that's kept me from just scrapping everything and using my upcoming hiatus to learn Fusion.

Hi @cvifx_steve,

Thank you for reporting this issue. Do you have Aspera Connect installed by chance? We're aware that having Aspera installed can cause crashes when accessing file dialogs as you're describing.

Whether or not Aspera is installed, have you been able to submit a crash report with your email address? That would help us to diagnose what is causing the crashes.

Thanks for any additional information,
