After Effects not loading after initial splash screen, stuck/frozen

I'm having issues launching After Effects of any version (24.6.3 & 25.0) as well as in Safe Mode. It finishes loading after the initial splash screen, but stops and freezes when loading the window (white screen). Attached is a visual of what appears on my end.

I'm used to slow-er load in times, but I've let it wait to "load" for 10 minutes and nothing changes. When attempting to close the program, it also gets stuck trying to recover my information. No third-party plugins are installed, and launching in safe mode produces the same results. Reinstalling both versions also did not fix this issue.

@Jessica McMillan @nishu_kush @Ludwig Tomaschko My apologies on giving such late replies. I fixed the issue, here were my steps when doing so:

- I did not/ever had the beta versions installed, so this wasn't applicable.

- I also did not/ever had Trend Micro installed as my antivirus, so this wasn't applicable.

- I went through with reinstalling/updating my GPU driver from the manufacturer's website (Intel in this case). Installed it, reboot, ended up with some extra windows update (which for some reason hasn't been installed yet but of course this isn't the forum for that anyways lol), and it ended up working!

I didn't get into disabling my antivirus, but ultimately updating my GPU from Intel's website ended up doing the work, so I'm not complaining. Thanks to all that helped me!

Hello @Mark261949707g7m

Aside from @nishu_kush's suggestions, we also have a known issue in regards to Trend Micro. Here is the text from our known issue page with suggested resolutions:

Trend Micro on Windows devices causes After Effects to crash at startup

Issue: When you launch After Effects after installing or updating Trend Micro on Windows devices, the application hangs on "Initializing Media Core" and then crashes.

Resolution: The crash is likely because Trend Micro is trying to protect your Users folder. We are actively working with Trend Micro to resolve this issue. In the meantime, here are a few workarounds that you can consider:

  • Try adding an exception to C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe so that  Trend Mirco isn't trying to protect the folder and sub-folders.
  • If creating an exception doesn't work, you can temporarily turn off the protection.
  • If both exception or disabling does not work, uninstall Trend Mirco antivirus software and launch After Effects.

Please let us know if one of these suggestions works for you.

All the best,
Jessica

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the issue. Did you try Ludwig Tomaschko's solution? Did it help?

If not, please try the following suggestions:

  • Update your GPU driver from the manufacturer's website.
  • Disable your antivirus for testing and see if that helps.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Nishu

I experienced the same, with Photoshop. Deinstall all Beta Versions of your Adobe applications.  After 2 days of investigating with Adobe, they came up with this and it worked for me
