Cinema 4D bloatware is sneakily installed again

I can't believe this nonsense is back. Right at the start of my start menu under "recently added": 'Maxon Cinema 4D'". Why??

This was finally solved after years of multiple unwanted C4D installations:

installing C4D is now optional when installing After Effects 2023 and later.

As noted by @JohnColombo in Prevent Maxon Cinema 4D Force Install

The add-ons overview for AE in the Creative Cloud application just shows 'installed :white_heavy_check_mark:', no option to never install it or even to uninstall it.

Hi @rtijn,

Thank you again for reporting this issue. We've confirmed that the Creative Cloud app is installing C4D as part of automatic updates and will be passing that info along to the team managing the install functionality for it to be fixed. To prevent C4D from being installed with future After Effects updates, it is recommended to disable auto-updates and be sure to uncheck "Install Cinema4D" when clicking Update in the Updates queue.

Cheers,

If we accidentally leave installing Cinema 4D enabled, we can uninstall it at anytime to free up space as well as install it again later if needed.

Just scroll to the embeded YouTube how to video.  It gets right to running the uinstaller.

I wasn't asking how to uninstall it. I was saying that this is unnecessary third-party bloatware, which should have never been installed in the first place. After years of dealing with multiple simultanious installations of C4D, Adobe finally made this optional and now it's back to being forced again.

Did Maxon pay for this? I can imagine Blender is making them nervous.

3D intergration was a fairly significant user feature request a little more than a decade ago.

Are you not seeing the option to disable the installation of Cinema4D Lite?

he's asking why the feature defaults to on and installed, instead of being an optional addon
part of After Effect's largest issue is how bloated it is, with it's 470+ default addons and RAM usage method. It does seem to be an oversight that C4D must be uninstalled to save space if you don't use it, instead of turning it on if you intend to link the programs- something many C4D users likely don't do or know about anyway.

That said, there are many parts of AE that would be best turned off by default, with a browsable addon editor to enable them. Most users don't need most addons, and a lightweight program maximizes performance, startup times, and UI usability.

Hi @rtijn,

To the best of my knowledge, nothing has changed in regard to the default option for C4D. What method do you usually use to update After Effects? Perhaps there is an update path that the Creative Cloud app team needs to address to prevent unwanted installation.

Thanks @JohnColombo!

I set CC to auto-update everything. For AE I have both 'Import previous settings and preferences' and 'Remove older versions' checked. I don't see any options for C4D and I did not get any prompt when AE got updated.

Let me know if this answers your question or if you need any additional info. Happy to help
