Colorimetric bug in After Effect with DNG sequence opened with Camera raw

Hello,

I have a bug on:

1. After Effects V 25.3.2 (with Neat Video plug-in)
2. on Mac Studio 2022 (M1 and Sequoia 15.5) and MacBook 2019 (Sequoia 15.6).
3. DNG Sony FS7 camera RAWs, which I open in AE in: All Files/Camera Raw//Camera Raw Sequence.
4. The expected result is colorimetric conformity between Camera Raw and After Effects (a workflow I've been using for 8 years without any issues until now, but stopped using for at least several months). The actual result is a completely different colorimetry in After Effects (see visual 2) compared to the desired colorimetry set in Camera Raw (see visual 1). This either manifests itself immediately in the case of the Mac Studio, or for the MacBook Pro after changing the frame rate, for example, in Interpret Footage/Frame Rate/Conform To.

I wanted to attach three DNG files to simulate the sequence, as well as the XML file for the RAW camera settings, but I got a site error: The content type clip0000132_0000000.dng in the attachment (image/x-adobe-dng) doesn't match its file extension and has been deleted.

I still have several hundred rushes shot over the past 10 years that I have to process as I go through this workflow, so if it stops working, it would be a disaster!

Thanks in advance.

Hi @florenceb86532011,

thanks a lot for the footage, I am now able to reproduce your issues on my side, and have created a ticket for bug investigation.

I'll update this thread when I have more news regarding this issue.

Seb

Hi @florenceb86532011,

I'm Sébastien, quality engineer on the After Effects team. Sorry to hear that you're still having issues with the DNG behavior in 25.4.

Would you be able to share a reduced project with me in a DM, with a few frames of your DNG sequence, so I can try to reproduce your issues on my side?

Thanks a lot,

Sébastien Périer

OK, thanks. I've updated everything: After Effects 25.4 and Sequoia 15.6.1. I chose a color space, opened my DNG sequence via Camera RAW, applied my settings, and, sure enough, the colorimetry is correct!

But there are still problems: when I try to change settings in "Interpret Footage," whether to change the frame rate or in "Other Options" to access Camera RAW again, the colorimetry becomes incorrect again!

And if I first put the rush into a composition and try to go to "Interpret Footage/Other Options" to access Camera RAW again, the software crashes!

Besides setting a color space there i an update available for Ae (to 25.4).
Is there a specific reason why you have not updated the newer computer to OS 15.6?

Go ahead and set one (any of the RGB ones should work for you). A working color space is now required for correct color handling when working with Camera RAW files.

It was actually a bug that RAW "worked" without a working color space in older versions of AE, but with the recent improvements to HDR support in AE, we needed to enforce the working color space to correctly map RAW content in both the SDR and HDR color ranges.

No, I don't

Do you have a Working Color Space set for the project?
