Memory Settings Randomly Changing

Community Beginner ,
Jul 10, 2024 Jul 10, 2024

I'm on Windows 11 and I'm subscribed to Creative Cloud. I have the latest versions of CC installed, including AE, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, etc. (no other add-ons installed).

I have 64GB of RAM installed with a 12-core processor. My sweet spot for memory is to utilize 40GB for all Adobe programs (leaving 24GB for others I needed to multitask).

When I set the 24/40 ratio in After Effects memory settings (which auto sets the same value in my other Adobe programs), I noticed is randomly changes these settings if I close the program and check it again.

I've seen it reset itself to everything from 0GB for other programs (with AE taking up all of my RAM), and even randomly setting it to 56GB for Adobe and 6GB for other programs.

This setting used to stay fixed after the first time I set it, so not sure why it's sporadically changing.

That's not right! This setting should not change by itself. What's the version of After Effects you're using? Does it happen every time you launch After Effects or happens randomly? Can you try resetting the preferences of After Effects? Here's how: https://adobe.ly/3VXVPXr

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
Nishu

Following up on this...

I spent the day updating all my Creative Cloud programs using the updater, and I reset the preferences for every app and reconfigured. This is still happening unfortunately. Here is all the info I have:

  1. I'm on the most recent 2024 versions of all my Creative Cloud software that the updater will push down (for example, After Effects is 24.5.0 (build 52)
  2. This happens sporadically. Sometimes it'll show my custom settings of 24/40, then I can reload After Effects and it might show 6/58, then other times 0/64, even sometimes reverting back to 24/40. It's very random.
  3. Again, have already reset everything and that didn't do the trick

Is there no resolution to this memory behavior in my Adobe apps?

Does it happen on a specific project? Does it happen only when you multitask on other Adobe apps? If possible, can you create a screen recording that shows the problem? We're happy to investigate.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,
Nishu

OK, here you go. Just made this video from a fresh restart of my computer and three passes at After Effects. As you can see, it starts with my desired settings, but after every close and reopen of the Memory Settings, I get a different reading.

It's been a few days, can I get some feedback on that video capture?

Thanks for reporting. We're able to reproduce it on our end, and we've filed a bug to investigate further.

Thanks Nishu! Well that's at least some relief/progress of a kind...at least I know it's not something only I'm dealing with.

I assume this may eventually require an update/patch via Creative Suite from the Adobe support team then? Of if a manual fix is found, can I check back here for an update when the solution is ready?
