Thank you for reporting these issues. From your description, it seems like After Effects overall is struggling in a few areas on your machine. Would you be able to capture and share a log file with us?
To enable logging, select Help > Enable Logging and restart After Effects when prompted.
After you've relaunched After Effects and used it for a few minutes, go to Help > Reveal Logging File, which will open a few Finder dialogs—one of these will have the "After Effects Log.txt"
