3D camera tracking 360 footage

After having a lot of trouble with the standard 3d camera tracking 360 footage workflow. I`m looking in to do the 3d camera tracking in other software (such as PFtrack or Syntheyes)

As I find it the standard 3d camera tracker inside after effects very limited.

I`m I correct that I wil need canvas 360 to ingest the camera data from external tracking software into the scene? Or is there a way to do this with the standard VR edit point inside after effects. Searched the internet but find almost no useful info.

Just want to be sure before I invest in the canvas 360 software. As so far I can see the 3d camera ingest function is the only significant extra feature inside the canvas 360 tool.

Is this something that could be implemented in future versions of afx.

Some time ago I invested in all the mettle stuf and then they just implemented everything inside after effects. Jus t want to be sure this is the only option before spending 400 dolar.

What kind of problems are you having? Have you gone through the user guide and the tutorials Adobe points to for this kind of work? I'm having no problems at all.

I have Syntheyes and it's really good for some things but the integration with AE can be a little difficult to manage. I have not used Syntheyes for tracking 360 footage so I'm not familiar with the workflow, but if their forums and help pages tell you that you need Canvas 360 then you probably do.

I don't have time to explore the Canvas 360 website, but it looks like the script would help you with things like set extensions. You just have to decide what your time is worth.

I`m no refering to standard 3d camera tracking, but the 3d cameratracking via the VR edit points.

I`have been using the 3d camera tracker, syntheyes and PFtrack for years and I`m realy aware of how all this works.

Just can not find any info on the 360 camera tracking workflow as this is all very new stuff.

I allready got the workflow working. But the 3d track is a bit unstable. The problem is also I can not solve shots longer than 5 seconds.

You have to open up the VR workspace in AE. You do not use standard Camera Tracking. You need to open up the VR comp editor script and start from there:

Here is the Adobe tutorial on how to do that: Stabilize and track 360/VR footage with VR Comp Editor

So far this workflow has been completely adequate for everything I needed to do.

Hi Rick, I'm familiar with that workflow. But I'm not able to track in the afx 2019 spring version. I allready found some posts of people having succes with the 2018 version. However I realy want to look in more advanced tracking posibilitys for advanced 3d camera moves. Thats why i need ro know if i really need the canvas to ingest the camera solve into the 360 environment in afx.

The AE workflow is a little wonky but if works just fine for everything I have had to do. I don't do a lot.

If you think Canvas 360 would save you time and money then go for it. I do not know anything about the script.
