4k video material not showing in after effects

My 4k material i downloaded on line isnt visibile when imported into after effects

it shows just a black screen on the composition.

1080p works fine... if the same material works 1080 that means this should be an easy fix but I cant get it to work by purging and the strangest thing..... the eye for visibility is not clickable... like its an audio file? but the video opens in VLC movie player

That's useless. You have not provided any info about the actual file specifications. VLC will play a lot of things that AE can't handle, so this is not any measure of relevancy.

It could be a corrupt file or a format that After Effects doesn't support. Try transcoding the file using Hand Break or Shutter Encoder (both the apps are freeware).
