Adobe After Affect v24.1 stuck at "Initializing MediaCore" on Mac OS 13.6.3

Hello,

Not sure what updated in the last two to three days but Adobe AE all of a sudden stopped working on my Macbook Pro.

Here are my MacBook specs:

Processor: 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

Memory: 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
MAC OS: 13.6.3 (22G436)

Built in Graphics:

Chipset Model: Intel HD Graphics 630

Chipset Model: Radeon Pro 555

I have tried the following but none has worked:

  • I have tried removing AE and reinstalling it.
  • I have tried different versions (AE 23.0, AE 23.6.2, AE 24.0.1, AE 24.1)
  • I have tried starting it in safe mode.
  • I have tried resetting preferences.
  • I have also tried deleting "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0/MediaCore" folder.
  • Restarted machine and ensured there are no updates.

I am out of idea on how to resolve this issue. Please advise!!

Adobe Photoshop launches but gives an incompatibility check:

Warning: Driver update recommended

Fail: OpenGL unavailable

Fail: OpenCL unavailable

Pass: Metal available

Pass: Above required VRAM (1610 MB of 1500 MB required) GPU Detected: Intel(R) HD Graphics 630 (INTEL)

There are no driver updates so not sure what to do.

Hi Wasim,

Sorry to hear about the issue.

Do you see any error messages or crash reports? After Effects stuck on Initializing Media Core usually means that After Effects is having trouble loading third-party plug-ins/scripts. I see that you've tried deleting the Media Core folder. In addition, can you try running After Effects in Safe Mode with the third-party plug-ins disabled if you haven't tried that already? If that doesn't help, do you have the Trend Micro security installed? If so, disable that and see how it goes.

Report back.

Note: Moving this thread from Bugs to Discussions for troubleshooting.

Thanks,

Nishu

Hello Nishu,

Thanks for the reply. I have tried disabling third party plug-ins and ran AE in Safe Mode but it did not resolve the issue. Also I do not have Trend Micro installed.

That's strange.

Do you get the crash reporter? If so, provide your email ID to it and submit it. We'll try to find the crash report at our end. Don't forget to DM me your email ID if you submit it.

Some users are seeing launch-related issues in ManOS Sonoma. The issue is about the user account permissions. I'll suggest trying the solution that fixes that issue. Here are the details: https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-bugs/after-effects-23-6-and-24-0-not-starting-on-macos-14-sonoma/idi-p/14139194

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Nishu
