Adobe After Effects 2020 - Convert Audio to Keyframes freezes the application

hi there, when I select Convert Audio to Keyframes the application freezes and becomes unresponsive /extreme poor performance-wise

The machine I am working on behaves as usual and all other open applications behave normally

As I am new to AE I do not know what information is required to successfully analyse these symptoms

So any suggestions and tips as to what is needed, or can be done, would be greatly appreciated

Cheers, Andor

Comp info:

  • framerate
  • dimensions

Audio info:

  • sample rates/ data rates

Anyway, based on your description it simply sounds like mundane hardware acceleration issues in relation to a known bug with text layers that may exacerbate the issue. Hence the first logical thing to do would be to check and update your graphics driver as well as the respective settings in Ae. For the text start by trying a different font. Sometimes "bad" fonts can have weird side effects.

Hi Mylenium, really appreciate the continued time and effort you are putting into this

so my graphics card, it's using the most current version;

regarding updating the respective settings in AE, I checked the preferences and I wouldn't know what I need to adjust, and where

So, any suggestions or tips are greatly appreciated

and then there is the matter of filling in the blanks:

Comp info:

so the following two pieces of information I simply copied over from the information in the 'tutorial' I referred to earlier

  • framerate
30fps (configured when creating the composition)
  • dimensions
1920x1080 (configured when creating the composition)

Audio info:

  • sample rates 48000Khz
  • data rates, not entirely sure what you mean, or how to extract this information from AE

Hi Andor,

Thanks for reaching out. We'd need more information to troubleshoot the issue properly.

  1. Is it happening with all the audio files or a particular one?
  2. What are your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS)?
  3. What happens when it freezes? Do you have to close the application using Task Manager/Activity Monitor or does it come back to normal?

Let us know, we're here to help.

Thanks,

Nishu

hi Nishu, thank you for the follow-up

and with this being said, the answers (where possible) to your inquiry

1. this is the first time that I've used this particular method, so I am no longtime user . But the two files that I've used thus far both show the exact same symptoms

2. I have already responded to a previous comment that contains this information

3. So far I've had to kill the process - after leaving the application for a good amount of time (+1hour) to finish the affected process

Hope this further clarifies my situation

Well, info needed:

  • system info
  • comp settings
  • audio settings
  • type of audio and duration
  • where and how it's used
  • possibly effects you are linking to the audio

Could be anything from simply a gigazillion keyframes slowing AE down or an effect/ expression linked to the data making things slow.

hi Mylenium, thank you for reaching out and given me some sense of a starting point

Although not all questions can be addressed, I have tried to make it as sensible as possible.

Thank you again for your effort in trying to help me,

The warmest of regards, Andor

  • comp settings
would really appreciate it if you can specify what you are specifically looking for
  • audio settings
not entirely sure what it is that you are looking for
are you looking for the configuration of AE?
  • type of audio and duration
Currently using MP3, but WAV is also available, recording is 1.37.00 (give or take)
  • where and how it's used
as I am still the wett paint to Adobe AE's wall, I am trying to execue the following steps 'to the lettter' ::

  • possibly effects you are linking to the audio
