AE 2021 and AE 2022 - Is it just me?

Or are AE 2021 and AE 2022 just not really usable?

I used to work with Version 2020 (17.5.1) or Version 16.3 for a long time now and they run like clockwork. No Crashes, even if I have up to 300 Layers piled up in the composition. All kind of Third Party Plug ins where installed. No Problem at all.

Now I had to switch from my old workstation to a new Notebook and had to reinstall AE. Since Adobe does not allow us to install old AE Versions below 18.0 anymore - I went for AE 2022 (last current version) first, but I gave up after working with it for 2 days.

It crashed almost every 10 to 20 Minutes... and I just worked with Path Layers and the Roughen Edges Effect, the timeline was ONE FRAME LONG and I did not animate the path or ANYTHING. I was just trying to draw something with paths. Nothing else. After deactivating MFR, the crashes where a bit less but still way to many.

So I installed the last Version of AE 2021, and did the same - drawing paths, on a couple of path layers. Well, it crashed almost as much... I admit at this point I had no energy left for searching after possible solutions, hacks and so..

...I had a talk with a nice, but also helpless guy from the adobe support, he gave me a link to an old version of AE 2020 Version 17.0. Which is working like charm!!

I even tried and reinstalled After Effects Version 16.1.3. from a disk image of my windows partition on my old workstation, on to my laptop and even this version is working somehow without crashes and bugs.

I work with a (BRAND NEW) ZBook Fury G8 17,3", NVIDIA RTX A4000, with 64 GB Ram and a 512 GB SSD for Caching, WINDOWS 10 up to date. I even did a Hardware check and everything seems totaly fine with my equipment.

I reserve always at least 200 - 300 GB Space on a seperated, build in SDD-Drive (SK HYNIX PC711..) for Caching. My Workfiles are located on third build in SSD.

I use between 32 and 52 GB RAM just for After Effects, no other Programs or Software is running in the background.

So does anyone here in this Forum know how to get AE 2022 or 2021 to work porperly and foremost stable?? I am a bit tired, working with Versions from the Middle Ages and pay 60 Euros each month for it. YES, I am looking at you Adobe Managers
