AE Particle Playground particles has to act like gas

Hey there,

I have a question regarding Particle Playground in After Effects CC.

I'm working on a project where I need to visualize gas flowing through an object

I've created an mask and the particles flowing correctly through the mask. But, they act like liquid, and I need them to act like gas or air.

Does anyone around here knows how to achieve that?

Thanks, Dirk.

You might want to read the help on the effect and learn what the ephemeral property mapper is good for. In your case this would mean you create some sort of gradient or color blobs and assign them to a property with a value so that whenever a particle crosses one of those blobs it slows down. There's no easy answer here. Playground is one of the most underrated and underappreciated effects in AE, so there isn't even any good tutorials on it because like you most people seem to struggle with grasping the effect in the first place. I guess you just have to spend some time figuring things out and experimenting with it.

You will have to create layer maps to make them flow more vicously by adding drag and possibly negative gravity as well as giving them some turbulence.

Well, I'm sorry but I'm totally new into Particle Playground , what do I have to do with the 'layer maps'? And where can I add 'drag' and 'turbulence'?
