AE to Avid MC

Hi there,

I do appreciate that the following won't make me all that popular, but that said we all want each other to work as best as possible. I use Avid MC as my preferred editing software of choice (sorry, but it is better than PP), but the obvious advantage that PP has is that is that of bringing in AE work, and vice versa. Is there, or will there be, an AE plug-in available to MC that allows me to simply and easily work on an AE effect while this effect sits within (or however best phrased) an MC timeline? It's a great feature request, but it needs to happen on the Avid side. Importing an After Effects Comp into a Premiere Pro Seqeunce is possible due to the AE Library being part of Premiere Pro. That beign the case, Avid would have to license the AE Library and integrate it with Media Composer - assuming that that's even possible from a coding standpoint. Adobe licesnes and supports the Avid DNx CODEC out of the need for users to easily move back and forth, so the two companies recognize the relatiosnhip.

Another thing that could work against this happening is the nature of the entertainment industry where Avid is used most. Video editors are Local 700 while motion designers are Local 800. As two distinct positions, there's not a a stong need for the same person to be able to assemble a cut and also design graphics and motion. Premiere Pro better inhabits the area where one person is editor, graphic designer, motion designer, sound designer, effects artist, etc., - for better or worse.

Brilliant response, thank you. I understand the corporate competition aspect maybe, somehow, withholding this feature request, but, as you say, the DNx codec issue makes that a seemingly non-issue. It's difficult to see why Avid wouldn't licence this ability. Can you please expand upon Local 700 and Local 800? And where can I research this more?

If I had to guess, Adobe and Avid peacefully co-exist without making it too easy to switch.

A Media Composer based editor or Premiere Pro based editor is likely to be Local 700, but an After Effects artist could be Local 700 (there's a category for graphics/motion design as well along with a category for video compressionist) or Local 800 (broadcast graphics/motion design) or Local 839 (animation). While I'm Local 800, I've accrued the hours to join the Local 700 twice in the past - I've just never done it - and not too long ago I was on a kids animated show (Valt the Wonderdeer) and we'd talked about joining the 839 if we went another season.

Avid has long lost the market dominance it used to have and isn't used that widespread anymore even in some professional circles. that makes any chance Adobe would develop something similar to DynamicLink for it extremely unlikely.

No creo que Adobe se arriesgue a tanto, pero en esta vida todo puede suceder. Por el momento tendrás que seguir exportando tu composición desde Ae e importar en MC como se lo ha hecho durante tantos años.

This is a Users Group Forum so we normally don't know future plans that Adobe has. However I wouldn't expect dynamic linking between Avid and AE since they are different companies.
