Hi there,
Here's a very annoying issue I'm experiencing...
After Effects freezes randomly when working on compositions containing video assets. Freeze starts with composition playback or scrubbing, then affects the whole UI, so I have to force exit the app.
Composition settings : 1920 x 1080 25 fps.
Footage : H264 or Apple ProRes (422 or 4444).
After Effects version 25.1.0
MacOS Sequoia 15.3.1
Mac Studio 2023 - Apple M2 Max - 32 GB RAM - 512 GB SSD
Thanks for your support, best regards,
Julien
Hi all. Had this exact same issue and tried everything under the sun. Disabling multi-frame rendering is the only thing that helped. You just saved a huge client project @matt_b_732 thank you!
Quick update for the community: the issue seems to be fixed in latest stable release of After Effects (25.3.0).

Hello and sorry for the delayed anwser,
I think you should get in touch with @nishu_kush so the product team would be able to analyse your project and assets. 😉
I spent a few hours yesterday working on a big UHD project containing a lot of video assets in various resolutions: everything went fine.
Best regards,

Hey Subby, really sorry that the issue persists in the latest version. Did you try disabling multi-frame rendering as well? Or trying the beta version of After Effects? Here's how to install the beta version.
Let us know,
Caroline

Hi David,
What version of After Effects are you using? What are your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS version)? Are there any error messages or crash reports?
Thanks,
Nishu

Hi nishu_kush!
I'm currently using After Effects version 25.2.2 and I'm encountering an issue that I showed in the video. I tried removing plugins and testing to see if anything changes, but the problem still persists. A full restart of the program temporarily fixes it.
If needed, I can send you the log file and the project file for further investigation.
Also, can I be sure that this issue will be resolved if I update to version 25.3.2? Previously, I had a problem with the Mocha Pro plugin not working in version 25.3.0, so I'm a bit hesitant to update. But if that issue has been fixed in 25.3.2, I’ll definitely update.
My system specs: rtx 5070ti, Ryzen 9 9950x3d, Ram 64Gb, OS win11
Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the delayed response. Users have confirmed that the issue has been fixed, so you can update to the latest version. Also, I haven't seen any issues regarding Mocha recently. You can always downgrade to the older version if the new version doesn't suit you.
If it doesn't fix the issue, please update your GPU driver.
The issue discussed in this thread is different and macOS-specific. About your issue, I think it could be related to the GPU (if it's not the same issue). Let me know how it goes.
Thanks,
Nishu

In After Effects 25.5 the situation has gotten even worse. First, the image freezes, and when trying to restart the program, it just hangs and won’t close. To fix this, you have to restart the PC. The latest drivers for the graphics card are installed.
