Question

After Effects CC not starting

My colleague has issues getting AE started. The following errors are shown:

1. After Effects warning: Unknown BIB Error. Invalid encoding, BRV, 0 (83 :: 3)

2. After Effects error: cannot unlock an unlocked list. ( 27 :: 4 )

3. After Effects can't continue: unexpected failure during application startup

Tried the following to get it fixed:

- Start as administrator;

- Resetting AE preferences;

- Reinstalling AE.

Any idea what could cause the issue? Thanks!

    Hi QYN,

    When does he get these error messages exactly?

    Which OS? Which version of After Effects CC?

    Does it happen in all the projects?

    Is he able to launch After Effects?

    Thanks,

    Rameez

    Hope these answers to your questions will help you out:

    When does he get these error messages exactly?

    He get's them when he starts AE. He gets the loading screen, but after that he gets the errors, but AE will not start.

    Which OS? Which version of After Effects CC?

    Installed on Windows 7 Pro (64 bit). After Effects CC version is 14.1.0.57.

    Does it happen in all the projects?

    The application will not start.

    Is he able to launch After Effects?

    He get's the loading image, but after that it crashes, without being able to open AE.

    Hey QYN,

    Does After Effects crash while loading a specific plugin?

    Are there any third party AE plugins installed at all?

    Does any Windows error message pop-up at the time of the crash?

    A good step would be to check Event Viewer (Windows event logger) and see if it gives us any information. After launching Event Viewer, choose Windows Logs > Application and see if you find anything about After Effects. It might look something like this:

    Let us know what you find out.

    Thanks,

    Rameez
