After Effects crashes when using Rotobrush 2.0

Good morning!

I just upgraded my RAM (it was 16GB now 32GB) Since that, i've been experiencing this issue with After Effects. When I try to use RotoBrush 2.0 it automatically crashes. I can use RotoBrush 1.0 though. I have tried installing older versions of After Effects but the same thing happens every time. Thanks for your help.

I'm uploading the crash report I could collect.

There are dozens of posts on this problem. The solution is to change Rotobrush to version 1.0. The workflow to do that is simple.

Open the layer in the layer panel, pick the Rotobrush tool, click once where you want to start the matte, and immediately enable caps-lock. Change the version to 1.0 in the Effects Control Panel/Rotobrush settings, release the Caps-Lock and continue with the roto.

Thanks for your answer! Yes, Rotobrush 1.0 works fine. The thing is that the workflow is much slower than with 2.0. Before I upgraded my RAM I could use 2.0 without any problem. It's a provitional solution and it works, but I'm concerned about why it crashes when using 2.0.

Thank you very much! Best regards.

The bug the OP was facing has been fixed in the latest output. If you needed to use the Tool and your software had a bug, the workaround was to use the option available in your version to go with a previous version of the tool that would work and keep everything in your current project.  It is nothing at all like suggesting different software. I just suggested a solution that uses the same tool in a slightly different way so you could get the job done.

Thanks for your solution and it work perfectly on my side!!

Hi Diego5FC8,

Sorry for the crash.

When did you upgrade RAM? I see that you're using After Effects 2022 version which was released today. Do you think it's the RAM or After Effects update? Also, does it happen in new projects as well?

Let us know, we're here to help.

Thanks,

Nishu

Good morning! Thnaks for the answer.

I updated my RAM on monday and since that this error occurs every time I use Rotobrush 2.0. I don't think that would be a version problem, I have tested with both new and previous versions and that error always occurs. It happens with new projects as well, yes.

I'm uploading an actual crash report AE gave me. It says " <crash exception="EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" exceptionCode="0xc0000005" instruction="0x00007FFF7FB2B597"> " But I don't  know what that means.

Thank you very much for your help!
