Delete the preferences, reinstall the program and try again:
Setting preferences in After Effects
Also check your graphics driver and update it if necessary or for that matter any critical driver liek the audio one as well. Anything more than that will require some actual system info.

Thanks Mylenium,
I will try this. It's a brand new high spec desktop, so I'm thinking all the drivers should be good. Relevant drivers for After Effects were installed.

Hi Tracey,
Sorry for the crash.
We can provide personalized troubleshooting steps if we know the system specs (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS version). I'd suggest checking for OS updates if it's a new system.
Let us know, we're here to help.
Thanks,
Nishu

Hi,
Unfortunately, once I close the error pop-ups, AE closes, so I can't get to the Preferences.

What's the version of the GPU driver that's installed on your computer? Are you working on a dual monitor setup? Also, are there any third-party plug-ins installed?
Let us know.
Thanks,
Nishu

Hi Nishu,
The GPU driver is NIVIDIA GeForce 3070.
Single Monitor.
How do I check for third party plug-ins?
Thanks
