After Effects error: could not convert Unicode characters. (23 :: 46)

I'm getting this error whenever I try to open After Effects CC 2021 (and also had it with CC 2020, installed updates and problem persists).

Running on macOS Big Sur.

The answers on Adobe's help site point to folders that existed for older version of After Effects, but not CC. Any help is much appreciated!

Hi Scott,

Sorry for your issue with After Effects.

Have you tried resetting the preferences of After Effects: https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects/faq-how-to-reset-trash-preferences-in-after-effects/td-p/10634342

If it doesn't help, try creating a new user account on your computer and see if you're able to open After Effects in it.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Nishu

I'm having tha same issue (2021 M1 Macbook Pro, Ae Version 23.0.0. / Build 59 ; macOS Monterey )
