After Effects freezing macbook pro

Hi, I'm having issues with After Efects running on a macbook pro. The application freezes at different times, for example, when moving a keyframe, or adjusting the spatial interpolation, adding an effect, etc. This freeze locks up my whole computer and forces a computer restart. I have tried deleting all plug ins, preferences, and starting in safe mode. All these efforts do not fix the issue. Any ideas? Thank you!

Macbook Pro, 2019 (OS 14.3.1)

Processor: 2.4 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9

Graphics: AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB
Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

Memory: 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

I was able to find a solution, thankfully. However I had to figure it out myself, but so far it works great. I changed the cache location (Setting... Media and Cache Disk) to a 1TB external SSD hard drive, and after I did that I had zero problems. Yes, it is inconvenient to have to keep the SSD drive plugged in all the time, but at least AE is stable now. Good luck!

were you able to solve the problem? I have the same thing and it's definitely not the problem with my MacBook 2019, i7, 16 RAM (reinstalled and went to Apple to check).

Hello, has this fix continued to work? I have tried everything so far and nothing has worked.
Thanks in advance 🙂

Does it happen in a specific project or all the projects? Please share the following.

  1. Enable Logging from the Help Menu (Help -> Enable Logging), restart AE, and then once the crash happens, restart AE, go to Help -> Reveal Log Files, then find the After Effects Log.txt and post it back here. Perhaps that will help us figure out what is going on.
  2. Do you get the crash reporter? If so, provide your email ID to the crash reporter and submit it. Do not forget to share your email ID with me via DM so that we can find the crash report.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Nishu

Thanks. I just turned on "Enable Logging." I will report back with the log.

The crashing happens in all projects, at seemingly random times. This has been happening multiple times per day, causing a full computer restart.
