Hello, I am brand new to after effects. I have watched countless videos on how to mask using mocha. I am trying to mask out objects from my footage, and i can create the masks and track them fine. When i go to use the Content-Aware Fill tool and click generate fill i am prompted with a "save as". I then save to my desktop for easy to find. I have a new .aep folder and "fills" folder on my desktop. when i open fills its a bunch of blank png files. All the videos ive watched when they click the generate fill it is automatic no saving or anything and seamless. what am i doing wrong?

Are you not saving the After Effects project to begin with?

Content-aware Fill saves the resulting files to a sub-folder next to the After Effect project file.  As such, if a project file has not been saved yet, then After Effects will prompt you to do so.

You can delete the project after closing After Effects, but I would recommend giving it a descriptive name and saving it in case future work is needed for the same project.
