After Effects Low Memory Usage and Can't preview full composition

Hi Adobe community, I've been encountering a frustrating issue with After Effects 2024, and I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on the situation. I'm consistently receiving low memory usage warnings in After Effects 2024, even when my memory is not at 100% capacity. This is impacting my ability to preview even small portions of my edit. I have 16 GB of RAM, and despite trying various solutions, the problem persists.

Attempts to Resolve:

  1. Switched preview resolution to quarter.
  2. Cleared disk cache multiple times.

System Specs:

  • After Effects Version: 2024
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • Operating System: Windows
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 12th generation

I've noticed that even when working on relatively simple projects, After Effects triggers low memory warnings, preventing me from smoothly previewing my work. The odd part is that my system is not maxed out, and I still have available resources. I put allowed RAM on other applications to 3.

Steps Taken:

  1. Reduced preview resolution to quarter.
  2. Manually cleared disk cache.
  3. Monitored system resource usage – not hitting 100% capacity.
  4. Checked for any background processes consuming resources.

Despite these efforts, the issue persists. It's particularly frustrating as it hampers my workflow and the ability to finish my edit. I'm reaching out in the hope that someone can offer good guidance.

Any assistance or advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated!

We have done some work for better memory usage in the current AE Beta builds. If you're able to install a beta build from Creative Cloud Desktop, you may find less memory warnings and a better workflow.

16GB RAM is the minimum needed to run AE and based on the error message, I suspect you may have another Adobe app open, such as Premiere Pro, Character Animator, Photoshop, etc. which is holding on to memory and AE can't use that memory at the same time. Can you make sure you only have AE open and see if this persists?
