After Effects Motion/Position Handles missing that curve the movement path

I'm following a tutorial to get my motion path to curve but the slider is not appearing. Any suggestions?

You can use the Convert Vertex tool. Select the tool and click and drag one of the ends of the motion path.

    why do we have to use convert vertex tool? Every people is getting the handles after key framing but some of us don't. Is it possible to fix? It's time consuming to add vertex tool to every points.
