After Effects on M1 MacBook Pro with only 8GB RAM?

New Here ,
Apr 26, 2021 Apr 26, 2021

I have a question, is After Effects running on a MacBook Air with M1 and only 8 GB RAM even if it says on adobes webpage that systems requirement is 16 GB - can anybody confirm this? Thanks ✌️

Incredible that there is no answer for you yet my guy. I could open and run AE fine on the new base m1 imac with 8gb ram so i believe it should be fine 🙂 I didn't get to do extensive testing so you might hit some performance snags but it seemed fine to me. Especially in 2025 when adobe finally makes it m1 native it should run great!

it's not that incredible.  you're asking if anyone has personal experience trying to install and run ae on a underpowered computer with a particular set of specs.  why don't you try it, if you have such a computer, and report your results.

That's what I did, which begs the question, why even post this snide response?

because there's nothing snide in that remark which i offered because adobe offers 1 week free trials, so anyone can test any any cc program with their computer.

I bought the least expensive M1 Mac Mini, 8GB Ram 256GB storage just to test and I'm amazed. Premiere Pro runs better than on my fully loaded (went to the order page and selected everything you could), 2020 MacBook Pro and it is Universal. AE is still running on Rosetta (Intel) for both AE and AE Beta, but it too is amazing. I'm feeding an HDMI HD HP monitor, all my extra apps including Creative Cloud are stored on a very fast external 2 TB thunderbolt drive, and so far, no problems at all. The only thing that would worry me about a MacBook Air is the small screen. Here's a tutorial I created on the M1 Mini.

Pay close attention to the time it takes to preview the effects.
