After Effects Performance Issue

I have upgraded my hardware recently to more of a gaming type of build, but somehow after effects runs worse than it did when I was using a old laptop on its last legs. My current specs are an AMD Ryzen 5800X with a 3060 Ti GPU and 32 GB of ram. After effects is constantly "Not Responding" sometimes even after doing nothing and it being idle. I have what is essentially default settings with only about 6gb of ram allocated to other processes and 150 GB of storage on an SSD for media and cache. As an extra that may be helpful my after effects is installed on a SSD and my computer has had performance issues in the past when trying to use programs such as Unity.

Make sure to use the latest Studio Driver from NVIDIA (NOT the Game Driver).

New AE version not tested and not optimized. Not tottaly official but about that rule - "not use AE if you have less then 64gb ram".

Im have 64gb ram powerfull computer when all project and cash on fast high-end SSD and its still works with many performance issue.

If you need to work - maybe worth to try instal v.22, its most old version what Creative Cloud allow to install.  Some 5-7years old version of AE probably works much better but i dont know legal way to use it.

I was thinking of looking into maybe downloading the 2020 version, any ideas on what version of 2020 is most stable?

Hi Jahkeim32706526geji,

Sorry to hear about your issue. Does it happen in all the projects? Are there any third-party plug-ins installed? What are the details of the footage (frame rate, frame size, format/codec) if you're using any in the project? Try running After Effects in Safe Mode with the Third-party plug-ins disabled for testing.

Let us know the results.

Thanks,

Nishu
