After Effects Preview Lag

Hi

I have an annoying problem.

When letting go of the playhead, my mouse cursor stutters/lags for a short period and then returns to moving smoothly.

I can quickly drag and release the playhead a few times and it lags almost every time and I've noticed my screen is slightly flickering at the same time.

1. This only happens in AE.

2. When I turn off both of my GPU's in the NVIDIA CUDA Settings for AE, the problem disappears (I want to use my GPU's tho)

3. I have tested both GPU's individually (removed each from case) - doesn't make a difference

4. When I record my screen with OBS, in the recording the mouse moves just fine.

5. It even happens when nothing is in the composition at all ... empty comp, just moving the playhead

FIXED!

Ok so for anyone else getting mouse stutters after releasing the After Effects Playhead... you're probably using a monitor with G-Sync. I turned off G-Sync and the problem is gone 🙂

Turning only AE to "fixed refresh" in the nvidia panel doesn't do it for me, I just get insane screen flicker instead of the slight cursor stutter.

Interesting, glad it was an easy fix!

Edit: Why would it only be happening after letting go of the playhead?

I attached a short video, demonstrating the problem.

You could try the switch "Hardware accelerate composition, layer and footage panel" under preferences/display.

I have tried that already. Doesn't help in my case.

I'd try upgrading your GPU drivers.

To "studio driver" in particular.

It's a bit difficult when mixing a Quadro and GeForce GPU in the same system, but I'm always updating to the latest studio driver.
