Question

After Effects stretches animation once rendered.

I have created a fairly simple animation using purely shapes from after effects. The composition size is 1080x608 at 30fps and that is what I am rendering to. The output is a quicktime .mov file and I have checked all settings to make sure the aspect ratio is correct. I can watch the preview and everything looks great, but once I render, the entire composition stretches and all of my shapes blow up out of proportion. I don't know what the issue can be because I am fairly confident that the resolution is not the problem. I appreciate any help, thanks.

Which of the many Quicktime codecs are you using for rendering?

If your project is distorting then you have fouled up the Pixel Aspect ratio in the comp or the renderer. Unless you are expert in video formats, codecs and compression you have no business creating custom composition sizes. Many formats will automatically resize any source material to a standard video frame. Without seeing a screenshot of your composition with the composition selected in the Project Panel so we can see the settings and without seeing the render setup and settings it's pretty hard to give you perfect fix. Your comp size is not standard for anything so I am not surprised that the render is fouled up.

I am using this composition size because I plan on using the animation for an instagram post and instagrams horizontal resolution is 1080x566 but I wanted to keep the standard aspect ratio so it is at 1080x608. I have tried adjusting the comp to 1920x1080 and resize my work but the render still distorts it. Here are the screenshots of my comp. If you notice the distortion in the thumbnail in the top left, that is how my project is rendering out.

I have seen other posts saying that frame blending or  motion blur could be the issue but that has not helped me. Also, my shapes are 3D could that have something to do with it?

    Hey ericv,

    That's a weird one!

Are you exporting via Adobe Media Encoder?

Have you tried exporting to other formats?

    Thanks,

    Rameez

I've tried using AME and I've gotten the same results.
