After Effects v22 is total slow & buggy garbage

Anyone else having nothing but grief with the new AE? I went back to 2021 (v18) and it was like having lead weights released from my ankles.

Another stupid problem I had with this version (which I never had before) was After Effects continuing to hog and accumulate memory, even when the program was idle and minimized, and even with the "RAM Preview while Idle" feature disabled (honestly, that's about the dumbest feature conceivable -- who asked for that?!). 

I had minimized an AE project so I could do some other work, and after putting the machine to sleep and waking it back up, the Activity Monitor showed me that AE had consumed 22GB of system RAM and crashed immediately.
