After effects wont export effects, only unedited clip - help!

Let me start by saying i'm very new to after effects. My issue is that I imported a clip into after effects,and within the composition it created is the raw clip I imported, and the edited version of the clip (that I ended up turning into a pre-comp while trying to get this all to work, for those wondering from the attached images). The edited clip is layered on top, and if I turn off the edited layers visibility, I can see the original clip behind it. However, when looking at the main composition containing the original clip and the edited composition, in the preview box within the project tab on the side, if I turn off the visibility on the original clip the whole preview window turns white, it does not show the edited layer as I imagine it should.

But also, when I go to export the project, it exports the original clip again, not the edited version. Its like my effects are not being edited along with the clip. If i turn off the visibility of the original clip in my project, it will export as a black screen with audio, not as the edited layer. And obviously, I need to be able to export my edited clip (now a pre-comp) and NOT the unedited version.

Another thing I think is weird, is that after I made the edited clip into a precomp, when I look within the new precomp, the clip within has no editing or effects, but when i go to the full timeline and make the other one invisible I can see the editing is still there. almost like the editing is on the composition and not the clip inside of it? Sorry, hope that makes sense.

If i was too vague or you need more specific information from me, please kindly let me know, as I said, im very new to after effects. I jumped in and started editing and spent a lot of time on a short clip and want to export it so I have it to use for Premiere, but I need the edited version in premiere. So if anything within these pictures looks weird or is obviously done incorrectly, please teach me the right way! Thanks again to anyone who can provide insight.
