All shadows in 3d project suddenly disappears when a text layer starts

Hello,

I´ve searched and not managed to find any thread on this problem.

I have a scene in 3d with a camera and light. There´re shadows that work correct and logically. The camera is moving around. No problem with anything really apart from one major thing that seems to happen for no reason - on a specific frame ALL shadows disappears. This happens on the first frame when a textlayer starts. If I remove the text layer all the shadows return.

I need to know what´s going on, can someone help me?

Thank you.

There are shadows under the photos and under the book, but it might be hard to see in the screenshots. But they are there.

Jesus Christ... I tried moving the layers higher upp in the hierarchy and the shadows came back.

    Fixed it. Thanks anyway!

Well, is the text layer actually 3D? Does it have a layer style or effect applied? A lot of these things can simply break 3D rendering order. In such a case you may need to pre-compose and use the resulting comp as a 3D layer (without continuous rasterization) to obtain a correct result.

Are you allowed to bump questions? I will not do it again if told not to.

    Thanks.

You are way over complicating things by trying to switch between cameras. You should also never use an MP4 as a digital intermediate. You need a frame based lossless codec, preferably 10 bit or better. Recompressing an MP4 will lead to color artifacts, compression artifacts, loss of resolution and it will also cause longer final render times.

Spend a little time studying video formats so you get a handle on them. It takes a while to learn how to use AE efficiently and it takes a while before you can visualize a cut, a camera move, an animation without actually seeing it. I was forced to learn to trust my instincts because I started when everything I worked on was film, all effects and animation had to be sent to an optical printer or the lab and you could not see what you had done for several days. Digital post is intoxicating and if you are not careful you can end up wasting days looking at previews and trying to do everything in one comp.

Yes I understand that, I was thinking more of how the film would look, not how efficiently it was made. So far I´m very pleased with the result so I won´t start over. Perhaps I´ll do some things different in the future, most probably so.
