Question

Apple Prores Files Crashing After Effects in play back and export

Using AE 17.0.2 on Windows 10.0.18362 (Latest Update)

Intel i7-8700k cpu @ 3.70GHz, 6 Cores

32 GB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (Latest Driver)

Never had any problems until I got a job requiring Apple Prores 422HQ files.

System crashes without offering crash report when I try to play them

If I get one to play without crashing, exporting file fails with this error report:

"Export Error
Error compiling movie.

Render Error

Render returned error.

Writing with exporter: QuickTime
Writing to file: D:\AIA\FX5-014\Clips\FX5-014Cmp06.mov
Around timecode: 00:00:01:01
Rendering at offset: 0.083 seconds
Component: QuickTime of type Exporter
Selector: 9
Error code: -1609629695"

Any ideas? Will have to pass on job if I can't solve this quickly. Thanks.

Hi OussK,

If you mean exporting with the media encoder through After Effects, yes it fails with that error report. Both methods for exporting from After Effects, Render Queue and Media Encoder fail, not to mention just having a Prores file in my work area can cause After Effects to crash, but last time it did provide a crash report to Adobe which I filled out.

Adobe support figured out the problem. Several old files that get created when using After Effects needed to be deleted. Apparently, common problem with imoprting Apple Prores files into After Effects on Windows platform. Odd could find no mention of it anywhere online. Thanks.

Would you mind walking through the process that fixed this for you?

Thanks!

Hi Rich,
