Question

Audio Spectrum

Hi all,
This is my first post in this community. If something similar to what I'm about to ask is already figured out, please refer me to the topic.
So I was wondering if there's a way to make an Audio Spectrum/Waveform but the bands to be in custom shapes?
I'm adding a screenshot of what I'm talking about.

This is a "3D"-ish audio waveform with custom shapes for the bands made in After Effects.

Thank you all!

Have you considered doing it in 3D? Cinema 4D has an audio effector and potentially you could eitehr export the scene as WebGL or at least some traced shapes via Sketch & Toon...

I'm looking for all kinds of options, not excluding 3D by any means, but still I think it was done in AE or at least it looks like it. Going to try in 3D of course if I don't find a way with Adobe.
Thank you for your support!

Thank you all for your replies!
I'm still trying to figure out how to do this a bit more automated.
So to be brutally honest, the company which I work for, has to recreate this animation which is from Eurovision 2023.
And the thing is that we have to make it into a json animation so we can later use for online banner ads.
The part with the json is fine, I have the tools to do it, but these tools only translate shapes to code, so that's why I'm struggling to find a way to make this thing work. You'll see in the video attached what exactly needs to happen.
Either way I can always do it manually, just thought that there might be (pretty sure there is) a way to do it a bit easier.
Thanks again, you guys are awesome!

If you use CC Particle World, you can generate use a custom shape (its a 2D shape admittedly) but with some work you can drive the particles to be a waveform.  I cover the second bit in this tutorial: https://youtu.be/OCVZ9HA5DUo

In CC Particle World, older particles appear in front, so as long as you keep that in mind and link the size of the particle to the music, I think you can get close without having to shell out for the Trapcode suite subscription.

No, you cannot use custom shapes. Your example was probably custom created with tons of 3D layers, expressions and/ or a plug-in like Trapcode Soundkeys to control the scale and color of each layer or it's e.g. Trapcode Form with an audio effector controlling the particles.
