Can't find track matte in AE CS4

Hello, rookie question, the 'help' says track matte options can be set in the 'layer fill' menu. I can't find any layer fill or track matte menu. In all the tutorials it looks like an option that appears along the top of the comp menu but it's not there.

    That's not what the Help document says. Here is what the Help document says:

    The TrkMat menu shares a column with the blending modes menu. To show the TrkMat menu, make sure that the Modes column is visible. (See Columns.)

    1. In the Timeline panel, drag the layer to use as the track matte directly above the layer to use as the fill layer.
    2. Define transparency for the track matte by choosing one of the following options from the TrkMat menu for the fill layer:

    Be sure to read the second sentence.
