Can't justify text in After Effects

Hi! I'm trying to justify my text and AE doesn't want me to! I have my text highlighted but the option to justify is greyed out.

    when you make you text layer, select your text tool and click and drag in your viewport to define the space for your text.

    If you just click to make your text it has no defined space so it has no given space to justify to, but if you click and drag you make a boundry for the text that it can justify within. hope that helps
