Question

Can't seem to add exposure fx to a layer

Good day everyone.

I have been following a tutorial (as I'm very new to AE) about how to create lightning in After Effects. Everything goes well up until the point where I have to add the exposure effect to the layer. The exposure effect does not show up in order for me to tweak the settings like all the other effects I added. I know its not a lot of detail, but all the other effects could be added without any issues and I could change their settings to my needs, but not the exposure effect.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, beautiful people.

Danette

Nevermind my previous reply ....I found the issue. Danette, make sure you are choosing the right "Exposure". You want the green one in my sample below not the red. The confusion happens because the guy who made the tutorial uses that plug in of his, rather than the actual effects pane....so he chooses the first one that comes up, which is what I did and I imagine what you did as well.

Thanks! I was trying to add the Lights and Optical exposure so many times but then I saw this post and scrolled down a bit further and saw the color correction exposure.

Doesn't realyl make sense. Why should a single effect that is based on the same host API suddenly behave completely differently? I concur with Rick - at the very least provide soem screenshot and a link to whatever tutorial you are following. Full details about your project would be even better.

What tutorial are you following? Most of the ones that I help people with have been prepared by enthusiasts and they are not much more than recipes that are not well thought out or explained.

A screenshot of your project showing us what is going on in the layer would also help. Select the problem layer, press 'uu' to reveal everything you have done to the layer, PrintScreen (take a screenshot), and then drag it into the reply field on the forum to embed it. You can also use the Toolbar.

If we know how you are creating the composite and what tutorial you are following we can probably solve the problem you are having quickly.

I have to concur with Danette here (the OP), as I think I am working my way through the same turorial. The video is here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=yxncS9gVDYI

And the effect is at about thw 12:00 minute mark. As you can see in the screenshot attached, you can apply several effects (linear wipe, then two fast box blurs, then add a solid composite)... but when you try to add an exposure effect, as the tutorial states, it does not show in the comp window so you can adjust settings. For reference, in my screenshot, you should see about 4 exposure effects, as I attemped to drag the effect in multiple times.

I'll attempt to restart AE, and then of course my laptop to see if this resolves...but I'm thinking if I'm having the same issue, on what appears to be the same tutorial, something must be amiss..
