can’t select mask

Hi, I try to make a text layer on a path. It worked pretty fine in the beginning. But the option to choose the mask layer is not available anymore. I can mask the text. But that’s it.

Seems like I solved the issue for now. I’ve reinstalled AE. Then it works again but only in new compostions. Still occurs in old comps.
