Question

Can you crop text boxes in AE?

HI all,

I'm just in the process of brushing up my skills in AE after using Motion for many years and obviously there are pro's and cons to each program. Currently I'm just trying to find out what i can and can't do that is the same. I need to do a text reveal. In Motion I could easily do this by applying a crop to the text box itself and key framing it. In AE the only way i can see to do it is to create a mask which is a bit of a pain as i need the text to the wipe of again to reveal more text which may involve multiple masks. So in a nutshell is there a tool in AE that gives you the option to crop top, bottom, left, right of a text box?

Thanks in advance.

J

Text has a special treatment in Adobe After effects.

You can use the animators founded in the text layer to add special animation to your text.

Animators have a special range selectors to animate text character/letter by character , word by word or line by line and more options.

or you can go to Effects & Presets Panel and choose a text animation preset from Animation Presets>Text> Animate in

Maybe I'm misssing something, but that didn't seem to provide the answer to the question of cropping text wtihout making a pre-comp and applying a mask...which seems a bit clunky. Is this possible?
