Can you ripple delete in AE?

Hello everybody,
I am pretty sure there is no ripple delete function in After Effects like in Premiere (yet) so I'm curious about an alternative way to do this. My problem is that I am copy and pasting a layer from one sequence to another. On the first sequence, the item exists only from :45 to :50, and when I paste it on the second sequence, I can't see it because the composition ends at :26. What I've been doing is Composition Settings>change duration, then move the item to an earlier time on the sequence, and then changing the composition duration again.

Is there a simpler way of accomplishing this?

    Thers is a simple trick for this. Instead of using the shortcut CTRL+V (or COMMAND+V on Mac) to paste, use CTRL+ALT+V (or COMMAND+ALT+V on Mac) to paste the copied items exactly in the playhead position

    On a Mac Laptop Function + Alt/Option + Left Arrow will move a layer's in point to the first frame of a comp. I use this all the time. If you have a numeric keypad Alt/Option + Home will do it. You'll have to check the Keyboard Shortcut editor to see what the combination is for a Windows machine without a numeric keypad.

      You can Ripple Delete in AE by using the Edit>Extract Work Area command. Take note that Extraction will only affect selected layers within the Work Area. However, I'm not certain how this will help your issue.

        I think there is a setting in preferences, to add layers always at 0:00, but I don't know if this includes pasted layers.

         

        If the layer is not time relevant (no animations at a certain time or everything starting at 0:00) not a precomp or footage item, you can set the in point to the CTI using the shortcut.

         

        Another way is to right click on the columns headers next to the layer name and add the entry for in and out.

        If I recall correctly, this sets the in-point of the layer in the comp, not the layer in-point. Try this.

         

        Otherwise there is not easier way than learning shortcuts (CTRL+K) or find a script which will do this.

          Neat trick, I'll be using that often! And when I press CTRL+K, Composition Settings pops up. Not sure why as I used to use some shortcut with K. Maybe it's been changed over the latest update. Thanks!
