CC Light Ray Edges

I am adding the light ray effect to a graphic and I am seeing the edges of the effect on the graphic. I don't recall the process to stop that from happening. Any ideas??

Pre-compose the text to a sufficiently large comp, apply the effect to the layer in the parent comp.
