Color management/HLG workflow in AE 17.6
Hello everyone,
I've been struggling for hours in AE 17.6 trying to do something that should be oversimple, but is not :
• I have shots graded in Resolve as HLG material. I wannna do some stabs in AE and render same HLG format as input.
My first try is setting everything how it should be, that is choosing right colorspace for the project, and making sure footage is correctly interpreted. Whatever HLG flavor I use as project colorspace, footage is totally blown away. When I look at the interpret footage/color management/ it's said embedded profile is REC2100 and the assign profile (that is greyeed out so I can't change it) displays REC709 gamma2.4. Of course it is NOT a REC709 file since it's a proper HLG log curve in a REC2020 gamut. The description then informs me that the so believed REC709 curve will be converted to actual working space, that is still REC2100 HLG... At this point, there is no solution since its seems the error takes place here, but can't be fixed AFAIK. BTW, what's the use of an override setting if it's unavailable ?
If this is because I've forgot some settings somewhere I'm sorry to waste everyone's time, but if it's an Adobe choice to disable colorspace override, this is probably one of the most stupid ideas they ever had, since they seems at the same time unable to choose correctly for us...
When going back to Resolve, all AE rendered files are tagged as REC709 files, despite AE project settings were set correctly up. So to sum up quickly, it's crap on the input side, and crap on the output side.
My second take was trying to bypass any color management. Also looked like something easy to do...
I can bypass source conversion with no issue, but setting the colorspace to none in project settings is not possible, for the very reason there is NO "None" entry to choose from the 4 meters long popup list.
How can this be even possible that the NONE selection has disappeared ?
Any help or input about same experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading,
David
