Composition Panel is blank

Hi, there's a number of people reporting the same issue over the years and unfortunately in my case no fixes work permanently.

Basically when I create a new comp, the composition panel is blank, but any elements in the space can be clicked on, they're just now showing on screen. If you hit space to play, it moves along one frame and stops. Deleting the After Effects folders in  C:\Users\me\Documents\Adobe and C:\Users\me\AppData\Roaming\Adobe work but literally for about a minute, then once the folders repopulate the composition panel freezes.

 

Anyone had any luck killing this thing permanently?

 

This is a fresh install of AE literally an hour ago, brand new laptop. It is a company machine running a virtual desktop so that could be an issue, but I seem to be able to fix the problem, albeit temporarily, so something's changing after a minute or so!

Typo - "Basically when I create a new comp, the composition panel is blank, but any elements in the space can be clicked on, they're just now showing on screen." should say NOT showing on screen.

Sorry for your issue.

Could you share your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS)? Also, what's the exact version of After Effects you're using: https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-discussions/faq-how-to-find-the-exact-version-of-after-...

Could you try changing the permissions as suggested in the following article: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/x-productkb/multi/preferences-folder-read-only-error.html

OS:

Edition Windows 10 Enterprise
Version 20H2
Installed on ‎27/‎09/‎2021
OS build 19042.631
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.31.0

 

GPU is Intel Iris Xe

 

After Effects version - 18.4.1 (Build 4)

 

Changed permissions as described in your link which did work initially for about a minute as previous fixes had done, but composition window then freezes as before.

 

I'm thinking it's something to do with the autosave? Does AE update user preferences every few minutes?

Hi, can I have an update on this please? I can't produce any work and will have to use alternative software and cancel my adobe subscription if this isn't resolved.

First off, you may want to look at the System Requirements for AE - https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/system-requirements.html

Ensure you have sufficient RAM and VRAM. And set Comp Panel zoom level to integer values of 25, 50 or 100 - see if this helps. 

AE has mutlple Preference Files. 
Autosave in AE is set in its Preferences Dialog.
Perhaps it's Windows that's changing the read-write settings?

Thanks for sharing the details.

Are you using any antivirus that may block the folder access? Could you try creating a new user account (with admin rights) for testing and check After Effects in it?

Hi, I've done this with no success - what did work was installing AE 17.0.1 so there's some issue with kater versions.
