Could not find the user documents directory

I have been trying to open up After effects for hours, but I keep getting an error message "could not find the user documents directory" I have tried disabling windows defender and everything. Nothing seems to be working can someone please help me out.

Without any specific system information and other details like your actual folder/ security settings we really can't tell you much. Start by reinstalling the program with sufficient user privileges and also run it that way. Anything more will require more details and likely an excursion to your security settings. From the folder simply being blocked to a wrong folder type settings to actual permissions issues there is just way too many possibilities for error.
