Question

Create Path from Text with expressions

Hey creatives!

I have to write a script and it is quite a challenge. First big test: I need to create a path from text.

So there is a Text-Layer and usually I would right-click and say "create path from text". But I need this to work as an expression. Do you guys have an idea? I already found some lines of code but unfortunately, they don't work for me.

Thank you!

If that's really all you need, then why reinvent the wheel? There's several scripts on AE scripts.com that already can create state-based masks and shape layers from otehr animated text layers, shape layers and masks. I'm not sure which one is the latest fashion, but surely digging through the respective categories will bring something up, be it just for the purpose of  snatching up soem legacy code and modifying it for your needs.

Expressions cannot trigger menu commands and that is that. Whatever finctionality you envision will have to be part of the script, not the expressions the script applies. That being the case, clearly explaining your project might allow us to advise on specific solutions to your issue.

Hey, thank you for your quick answer!

Thank you, good to know! The script should basically do the same as the menu command. Take each letter, lookt at the outlines, make paths from it. It should convert the text into paths!

Is there an approach you would recommend?

Thanks!
