Question

Dell use both GPUs

Hello all,

I have a Dell Precsion 5520 that consists of 2 GPUs, Intel HD Graphics 630 and Nvidia Quadro M1200. Not sure if this is related to After Effects directly but I feel the program does not fully use both my GPUs to maximise performence, rendering, previews and so on. Some times I received a message my GPU memory is full, which is untrue.

Is there a way to fully utilise the GPUs? Or am I missing something else?

Any help will be kindly appreciated.

Thank you all for your time.

As Martin already said, AE barely uses GPU stuff despite the various half-baked efforts in recent years to integrate such features. Too many limitations inherent to how AE works under the hood and the number of scenarios where GPU acceleration won't be used or will be disabled due to a combination of factors vs. when it actually works still must be something like 500 : 1, the simple realtime previews of clips without effects on the timeline not counted.

First, Intel GPU is not compatibel with AE, so AE won't use it in no case.

Second, AE is far away from utilizing even one GPU at a remarkable level. If you get secondlasting peaks of 10% GPU usage, you are fine. Currently, that's all you can expect.

CPU at highest possible clock rate and large amounts of RAM is still what get you around. Sad but true...
