Question

Different transparency behaviors in after effects compared to indesign

Hi all,
I am currently working on animations that are based on a transparency effect created in Indesign by superimposing several white layers with different effect settings of the inner shadow. The layers are faded in using the difference mode. On the top layer there is a coloured layer that is also set to difference. The result shows a significant thin luminous line that is created by superimposing several layers.

When I now try to recreate this effect in After Effects, I notice that the difference mode only takes into account one layer below and ignores deeper transparencies, which makes the result look completely different. My question now is whether it is possible to take deeper transparencies into account in After Effects. I would be grateful for any kind of help - thanks in advance.

Found a solution:
Precompose every layer seperately. Then the transparency mode works like in Indesign.

That's a great workaround, tobiasr32039669. Thanks for sharing.

Feel free to reach out if there are any other questions.

Thanks,
